With this contract extension, BUMA Australia will continue to provide mining services at the Meandu Mine in Queensland, Australia for the subsidiary of Stanwell Corporation.
The contract extension will run until June 2026, with a value of approximately AUD 200 million per annum. Under the renewed contract, BUMA Australia will maintain its current operational scale, with annual production of approximately 35 million bank cubic meters (bcm) and coal volume of approximately 7 million tonnes.
Delta Dunia Group Director Dian Andyasuri said, DOID is very pleased to be able to continue the successful partnership between BUMA Australia and Stanwell Corporation. This contract extension confirms BUMA Australia’s important contribution to the client’s success, while demonstrating a commitment to building a long-term partnership.
“Delta Dunia Group is proud of BUMA Australia’s dedication to providing superior and reliable mining services, fostering close relationships with the community, and carrying out environmental responsibilities as the Meandu Mine project progresses, while setting new standards of excellence and sustainability in the industry,” he explained in a written statement, Sunday (6/10/2024).
BUMA Australia has been operating the Meandu Mine project since 2021 and will continue to oversee all aspects of the mine’s operations. These operational aspects include responsibilities as Site Senior Executive (SSE), mine planning, drilling, blasting, overburden removal, coal mining, and management of the coal handling and processing plant. In addition, BUMA Australia will oversee rehabilitation activities, civil works, and maintenance of mobile and fixed facility equipment.
Affirming BUMA’s Expertise
BUMA Australia is committed to creating jobs and delivering community development initiatives in the South Burnett region where the Meandu Mine is located. Programs such as local skills training, partnerships with regional businesses, and support for local sporting teams and events have strengthened community ties and driven local economic growth.
BUMA Australia CEO Colin Gilligan said, the contract extension not only underlines BUMA Australia’s expertise in providing comprehensive mining services, but also demonstrates our commitment to growing with the local economy and empowering communities.
“We are committed to hiring a local workforce and creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. Our focus on diversity and Indigenous engagement ensures that all employees feel valued and supported. By investing in local talent and supporting diversity, we contribute to the economic growth and social well-being of the South Burnett region,” he said.
In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, BUMA Australia ensures that high-quality, progressive restoration is consistently achieved. In 2023, BUMA Australia successfully rehabilitated 39.4 hectares of native vegetation at the Meandu Mine. This initiative, which applied modern techniques to restore the local ecosystem, reflects BUMA Australia’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations
BUMA Australia’s focus on compliance with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations has been recognised by the industry. Scott Anderson, a Heavy Diesel Fitter and Site Safety and Health Representative (SSHR), received the 2024 QLD Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference Health Program Award. With BreathSafe, Scott developed a portable prototype to monitor respirable particles and CO2 inside the operator’s cabin in real time. This project not only demonstrates Scott’s innovation, but also BUMA Australia’s ongoing dedication to improving workplace safety and operational efficiency.
The contract extension with Stanwell Corporation at the Meandu Mine is a significant achievement for Delta Dunia Group in strengthening BUMA’s presence in the global mining industry, particularly in Australia. In addition, this contract extension allows BUMA Australia to continue its commitment to supporting local economic growth and sustainability.
