Uzbekistan targets higher coal output for 2025-2026 winter

Uzbekistan churned out nearly 8.7 million tons of coal during the 2024–2025 autumn–winter season and has set its sights on cranking up production to 10 million tons in 2025–2026, Trend reports via the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The figures were announced as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on current results and upcoming priorities in the coal sector.

To support this goal, as it was noted, the material and technical base of the “Uzbekkumir” joint-stock company has been strengthened, while conditions have been created for additional producers to enter the market.

President Mirziyoyev instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted coal supplies to the population throughout the season. He emphasized the need to modernize enterprises, launch new production facilities, and reduce production costs by promoting market mechanisms and competition within the industry.

The presentation also highlighted tasks aimed at accelerating new investment projects in the uranium sector, expanding geological exploration, and introducing modern technologies.

JSC “Uzbekkumir” (Uzbekistan Coal) is a prominent joint-stock company in Uzbekistan that oversees the nation’s coal mining sector. Its major function is to extract and supply coal to diverse sectors, including thermal power plants, social institutions, and the populace, to guarantee a continuous energy supply.
